This attractive (presumably German) wool work sampler has been stitched by Elise Schlüter in 1866.

Since the original was ruthlessly glued to the cardboard plate, we were not able to inspect the back side of the sampler. Therefore it was charted from the front side, reproducing sampler in its present aged state. Some colors seem to be faded and altered over the years. Our guess is that the sampler used to be much brighter, with vivid greens and purples.

Although the original had been worked on canvas with wool threads, our reproduction is charted for 35ct linen - Weeks Dye Works ‘Cocoa’ - and hand dyed cotton floss – The Gentle Art, Classic Colorworks (Crescent Colours) and Weeks Dye Works.

DMC alternative is provided, although colors are not an exact match. 39 colors are used in this sampler altogether.

Only stitch used in this sampler is cross over two threads, using 2 strands of cotton floss.

Stitch count: 259W x 236H stitches
