Kay Montclare is world-renowned for her exact reproductions of historic samplers. Her books include comprehensive and detailed instructions with large charts for every part of the sampler. Kay Montclare’s charted reproductions of authentic sampler patterns found in various museums and galleries have never been equaled. Since Kay’s passing in 2005, her are out of print, very rare and much sought after by stitchers and collectors worldwide.
This sampler is Spanish, dated 1756, and most probably shows the patterns used on clothing. There are 52 different patterns in this sampler and the original is a piece beyond compare, brilliant in color and stitched with care and a loving hand. There are over 50 colors used in the sampler. The original sampler was 28 x 30 inches but this reproduction measures approximately 35 x 37 inches when stitched on 36 count linen.
